Sew Reporter – Sunday 13th March

Happy Sunday team! How’s your sewing going? We’ve got some excellent pattern reviews to share with you this week from some star makers. If you’ve never left a sewing pattern review on the site, we’d love to hear from you! This video will help you set up a profile so you can share your makes.

We’ve got pockets on the brain this week, so have shared a couple of things to read and listen to if you are also someone who appreciates a good pocket. We’ve also written a blog post rounding up our top 10 indie easy trouser sewing patterns that is worth a gander. Have a wonderful Sunday whatever you are doing!

There is one maker that seems to be able to transform any textile into something glorious and that’s Raph! It was one of the things we loved the most about his work on the Sewing Bee, and have appreciated even more since the show ended. Raph’s latest creation turns some vintage Mexican rugs into a stunning Sienna Maker Jacket by Closet Core Patterns. When a friend asked if he could turn rugs into a garment he stepped up to the challenge and delivered! Raph added an extra special touch to this make by using an old Guatemalan rug that had been handed down to him through my family many years ago. It’s wonderful to see how sewing can transform unlikely items into garments that will be treasured. Follow Raph on Instagram for more inspiring makes; @raph_sew_and_so.

This make is everything we need right now. A splash of zingy colour to signify spring is with us! We adore Laura’s Heather Blazer by Friday Pattern Company and so does she! Laura said “I love everything about this blazer. Not just the finished garment, but the whole making process” in her five-star review.

Do you already have a specific design in mind? Or do you need some help finding the perfect pattern for your fabric? You can search all the patterns in our database using our newly updated sewing-specific search tool.

Woman wearing the Pietra Pants sewing pattern by Closet Core Patterns. A trouser pattern made in linen, chambray, lightweight denim or twill fabric featuring a flat front, high waist with elastic at the back and slanted hip pockets.

If you’ve been steering clear of sewing trousers because you are worried they are too tricky, we’re about to show you some options that are easy to sew. You heard me, easy. We asked the sewing community of Instagram and Facebook to tell us their favourite easy trouser sewing patterns and have shared the top ten on the blog!

Pockets are a popular topic in the sewing community. I think they might be one of the most popular topics for that matter! We really enjoyed this episode of the Love to Sew Podcast where Caroline and Helen discuss all things pockets. Enjoy!

While we’re on the topic of pockets, we thought we’d share this excellent series of tutorials we spotted by The Creative Curator. There are blog posts for five tutorials for different types of pockets that you might find helpful to bookmark!

Come and join our sewing Facebook group where we are chatting about sewing plans, new patterns and helping each other out with projects.
