Sew Reporter – 16th January

Happy Sunday Foldliners! I don’t know about you, but I am utterly transfixed with cosy sewing projects and feel a fleece might be in order to avoid cranking the heating up while I work! January is a great time to get organised (and hope that good habits last!) and if you’re planning on sorting out your patterns, our new storage envelopes might be worth a look. We’ve got a lovely new collection from PH7 patterns to share with you and some fleece sewing inspiration. Have a wonderful Sunday!

It’s a bit chilly at the moment and we’d love nothing more than to be wearing the cosiest garment there possibly is… a fleece jacket. They make you feel like you are wearing a hot water bottle (or is that just me!) and are a practical layer for throwing on for a stroll. We have seen there are plenty of cosy fleece jackets on the high street at the moment, and lots of them are in this teddy bear cream colour. We like the way some of them have incorporated a different fabric in the trims and pockets or used contrasting coloured zips for a pop of personality. We have quite a few patterns on the shop that are great for getting this look and here are a few of our favourites!

The Unisex Arlo Track Jacket by Friday Company has so much potential for playing with cosy fabrics and contrasting textures. FPC designer, Chelsea made up the Arlo in this super snuggly fuzzy fleece fabric and used ribbing for the trims. It works so well and is just the thing for staying warm on chilly days. There is also a very handy free sewalong video to go with the Arlo Track jacket where Chelsea makes this cosy jacket up!

Sizing: UK 6-34

Format: Paper and PDF

If you prefer a pullover styler, the Lindsey Hoodie from Vikisews is a great option. This pattern has some lovely details. The front features princess seams with internal in-seam pockets, and the back features a shaped yoke. It again gives you opportunities for choosing contrasting coloured or textured fabrics to really make this project your own.

Sizing: UK 6-20

Format: PDF

If snaps are your fastening of choice, the Bainbridge Pullover by Itch to Stitch could be the pattern for you! With a half-snapped front placket and a stand-up collar, the Bainbridge is an excellent layering piece. The bias-bound hem, sleeve hems and collar add an excellent opportunity for colour contrast. It’s practical and playful all at the same time!

Sizing: UK 6/8 – 34/36 with multiple cups sizes

Format: PDF

Speaking of cosy fleece fabrics… this AMAZING jacket was sewn using a cardigan pattern, yes a cardigan pattern! Tori used the Esme Cardigan from Named and made some modifications to sew this wonderfully warm jacket. Check out all the details on Tori’s blog, The Sewing Things Blog.

A firm favourite in the sewing community – the Zadie jumpsuit does it again! Sew Slow Sarah made the Zadie Jumpsuit by Paper Theory Patterns and said “I finally made a Zadie and do not regret it!”. We would absolutely love to have this Zadie in our wardrobe, it’s fabulous Sarah!

We have a few lovely new patterns on the shop including PH7 Patterns new collection and a gorgeous design from Itch to Stitch! Happy browsing 🙂

January is the time of year for reflection and seeing what has been so we have been nosing at which 2021 indie pattern releases have been the most popular with you all. We were so intrigued to see what made it into the top ten so we have shared the list in this blog post!

If you want to listen to something while you sew this weekend, the latest episode of the Check Your Thread podcast is a goodie! Host, Zoe will be chatting with Rebecca Evans-Merritt (who delivered some excellent content at our Sewing Weekender 2021) about slow and conscious making and what it looks like in real life. It’s a great listen!

Come and join our sewing Facebook group where we are chatting about sewing plans, new patterns and helping each other out with projects.
