Sew Reporter – 14th November

Happy Sunday sewists! How’s your autumn/winter sewing going? We’ve definitely been feeling inspired to sew warm things, with cardigans being top of the list! We are also thinking about the best gifts to sew, so we might share our pattern findings with you soon!

We’ve added some lovely new styles to the shop from Kate’s Sewing Patterns, a selection of Nina Lee paper patterns in sizes UK 16-28 and Tilly and the Button’s Indigo pattern in the UK 16-34 size range. Our Sewing Gift Packages are also packed up and ready to ship to their lucky recipients, so if you’re shopping for someone who loves sewing, do check them out!

If you’re anything like us, immersing yourself in a film at the cinema means absorbing the characters, the sets, the music… but most importantly, the costumes. I (Louise team Fold Line) went to see the new film Spencer (about Princess Diana) at the cinema, knowing that the costumes were going to be something special, but not necessarily things that I could translate into my own wardrobe. BUT, there was one piece that I can’t stop thinking about! This coat Kristin Stewart who plays Diana wore was the perfect balance of casual, chic and cosy, so I thought I’d look for a sewing pattern to recreate this look!

I thought that the Traveller Coat by Bella Loves Patterns would be a good match for the one worn in the film if you left the buttons off (no complaints here!). It does look like the coat had welt pockets and the collar looks the same so I think this pattern is pretty spot on. I also thought the Vogue V1758 has a very similar feel. Now I just need to hunt for something that matches this incredible fabric…

Traveller Coat by Bella Loves Patterns – sizes UK 6/8 – 18/20 with two height groups

Vogue V1758 – sizes UK 6 – 12 or UK 12 – 20/22

We saved this make the second we saw it because it is too good not to share! The uber-talented @tammy_silver drafted this stunning vintage-style dress for her lovely sister. It is utterly sensational. If you don’t already follow @tammy_silver on Instagram, go and do it! You’ll find loads more self-drafted gems and lots of fabulous sewing inspiration.

We fell in love with the Elio Top by Allie Olson when we added it to the shop recently, so when we saw it made up by Belle Citadel we nearly screamed with excitement! Claire (Belle Citadel) describes it as a “perfect knit wrap top for curvy busts” in her review. She has made this pattern FIVE times, so it definitely has her seal of approval. We really love it and feel inspired to sew one ourselves!

We’ve had some lovely new patterns to peruse this week!

Do you already have a specific design in mind? Or do you need some help finding the perfect pattern for your fabric? You can search all the patterns in our database using our newly updated sewing-specific search tool.

We’ve also added the UK 16-34 size range in PDF format for the popular Indigo Top and Dress and Indigo Add-On pattern by Tilly and the Buttons.

Who believes in PJs all day? What about ME MADE PJs all day? Now that’s a reason for a pyjama party! Sewing your own pyjamas may seem like a self-indulgent sew but if you wear PJs at night you are in them for over eight hours! We’ve collated our top 10 pyjama indie patterns for you to nosy at, and there’s a video to go along with it to accompany your sewing this weekend!

We spotted that the Fashion Textile Museum have released a batch of new online talk dates! You can book your place on the website and watch from the comfort of your home. We think they all sound really interesting!

Come and join our sewing Facebook group where we are chatting about sewing plans, new patterns and helping each other out with projects.
