With the warmer weather in full swing we don’t know about you but sewing a simple cami top sewing pattern is about all we can muster before we need a ice cream. Cami tops are fantastic wardrobe staples and work really well for layering with some of your other handmade wardrobe. The Willow tank is a really great beginner sewing pattern and of all the cami patterns this one has the most coverage. Grainline studio is well known for it’s well cut, simple silhouettes, the A-line shape of the Willow tank makes it easy to fit on the body. The great thing about this pattern is once you’ve nailed the fit you can then whip up one as a dress. This shape works well in lots of fabrics from a mid weight cotton to a linen or crepe.

The Jily top from Ready for Sew is perfect for those after a fun afternoon project. The pattern features a gentle V-neckline, darts at the bust and a seam around the waist. There is an optional feature tie a the centre front of the top and if you wanted something simpler you could well leave this out. We’re big fans of the shape of this top, loose but not too loose, wide straps for bra coverage and the neckline is really elegant. Great in most types of fabrics it’s a winner from us!

The Hello Sailor Top – The Fold Line (FREE)

Who doesn’t love a free sewing pattern!! The hello sailor top is the free pattern you get when joining the Fold Line and perfect for the warmer weather. The pattern features armhole darts making it fitted around the bust and flows over your hip and tummy area. The top is finished with bias binding on the armholes and also has a keyhole detail on the back with ties. This works well in lots of fabrics, a cotton is great for hotter days and if you wanted to dress this up for the evening why not use something with drape. It’s simple make and great sewing pattern for stash busting!

Bailén Top and Dress – Pauline Alice (FREE)

This classic cami from Pauline Alice is another free sewing pattern – hurrah! The pattern features bust darts, a gently curved neckline and straight back and finished with bias binding around the neckline and straps . This would be fantastic basic top but also work well lengthened to a nightie or even as a slip to wear under your handmade dresses. In terms of fabrics something with some drape would work best like a crepe or viscose, but if you’ve got nightwear in mind a cotton would work well too.

Out of all the cami patterns this one for us is is really clever in terms of fit. The pattern comes with three cup size options, there are two versions of the cami. The first is a more relaxed fit with a band around the bottom to add shaping. The second one features princess seams at the back, this is fantastic because you can get a loose feeling top without you feeling like you are wearing a tent. This princess seams will add shape and you can get it as close fitting as you like.
