Lulu dress

I love this pattern. It’s extremely versatile and perfect for beginner sewists.

What I love about this pattern is that it has an impressive finish, but the techniques involved in making the dress are actually very simple. For example, the button closure at the neckline is fixed with a small thread loop or rouleaux loop (I made a rouleaux) and there aren’t any tricky collars, cuffs or darts at all. In addition to helping with fit, the gathers at the neckline are a really pretty design feature, and the keyhole opening adds a lovely vintage-style detail that makes the dress feel special but still classic.

All in all, I give this pattern a 10/10 and will definitely be making it again. I used a cheap, chambray-like cotton to make this dress. Next time I’m going to try making it in a softer, more drapey fabric like rayon or even georgette for a 60s-inspired party look.
