Hippie dress and top

I’d already bought the fabric for this dress, from M Rosenburg & Sons at the recent show in Edinburgh. I wanted a Broderie Anglaise and found something simple but pretty, however, it would need lining for a dress. I had earmarked it for the Folk dress in Vanessa’s cool collection but saw this reviewed in the March pattern releases and knew it would be perfect for holidays. So I bought both patterns anyway, and made this one! It would have been much simpler without a lining, but I’m always up for a challenge. The PDF went together easily, and because there’s a lot of straight lines I traced it off onto Dot and Cross paper. As the fabric is see-through I opted for French seams, which always gives a better finish, and it went together quickly and easily. Based on the measurements given I decided to size up, but that wasn’t really necessary, make in your usual size, the dress is roomy enough to allow for bigger bums or boobs!! Because of the lining, I had to be a bit creative with joining the frill to the dress, and for the next make I will do it differently but it still worked out fine, it was just a little awkward. But I think the end result is sensational and I can’t wait to wear it now. C’mon sunshine!!
